If you are looking to help others, make friends or learn new skills, volunteering can be a fantastic way to boost your wellbeing and make a real difference to people’s lives.
Demelza’s Larkfield shop and distribution centre has just celebrated its first birthday. Since opening, the shop has served 23,587 customers and sold 87,299 items.
All the proceeds from Demelza’s shops raise money to help the charity continue to provide extraordinary care to extraordinary children facing serious or life-limiting conditions, throughout Kent, South East London and East Sussex.
An amazing team of volunteers supports the running of the Larkfield shop and warehouse. It is also home to the e-commerce team, who manage Demelza’s online shops.
Meet Richard and Anna, two e-commerce volunteers. They support the team by taking photos of items and listing them online.
Richard has been volunteering with Demelza for several years. He said: “Volunteering is a brilliant boost for my mental wellbeing and keeps me feeling young at heart. I love the excitement of selling special items and the thrill of discovering treasures you rarely see twice.”
Richard’s passion for jewellery has helped raise significant funds for Demelza.
Anna’s motivation for volunteering comes from wanting to give back. Her late husband was supported by a hospice and she finds the work of these charities amazing.
Anna said: “I like volunteering for two reasons, feeling like I am giving something back and doing something useful. I have learned a lot more about e-commerce and especially eBay. I’d never really used eBay before, but now I look at it for myself!”
Could you come and join the team?
There are lots of volunteer roles available and any amount of time you can give, even if it’s just a couple of hours, all adds up to make a big difference.
It’s a win-win for everyone. Feel great, help others, connect with your community.
