The Swan on the Green, West Peckham

You may recall our review last month of lunch at The Swan on the Green (if not, you can still read it online at https://kingshilldirectory.co.uk/restaurant-reviews/). The pub dates back to the 16th Century and recently came into Community Ownership after 463 shareholders raised over £550K to buy it. The pub serves lunch from Wednesday to Sunday and supper from Wednesday to Saturday.

On our last visit we were unable to manage dessert. I said we would be back and this week we managed it! At the time of writing the sign at the top of the road leading to The Swan on the Green reads, “Road Closed, Access Only”. Unfortunately, this has had the result of deterring would be visitors to the pub. However, we found that The Swan on the Green is completely accessible with no restrictions on access.

With the aim of enjoying the puddings this time around we both started with the spicy jerk sauteed tiger prawns which came with mango and crusty bread. The prawns were cooked perfectly, and the jerk dressing was just right.

This set us up for the puddings. My friend said she would happily eat any of them (or perhaps she said all of them 😊). There were ice creams, brownies, a lemon meringue mess, Hugh Lowe farm strawberries, a strawberry and cherry crumble and other delights available. I chose the sticky toffee pudding with toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream whilst my friend plumped for the pecan pie. The puddings were outstandingly good.

I recommend booking – although there is seating inside and out, the pub is very popular.
