Café Andaluz

As warmer weather approaches, you might be looking at planning your next UK break. We recently visited Edinburgh and, as well as trying some local food, also visited Café Andaluz, which has 3 restaurants in this city, as well as restaurants in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Newcastle. Café Andaluz offers a slice of Andalusia in the middle of the city, serving classic Spanish dishes like patatas bravas, a range of paellas and jamón ibérico as well as many more options.

The menu is split into vegetable, seafood & fish and meat dishes so there are plenty of choices no matter your preferences. We picked out a mix of dishes, trying out the ensalada fresca de Mallorca (a vibrant butter bean salad with pomegranate, herbs and garnishes), the croquetas de jamón y queso (crispy croquettes filled with Serrano ham and queso fresco), and what had to be the star of the show for me – the vieiras con serrano (Scottish scallops in a creamy sauce with crumbles of Serrano ham). The food was all served hot and fresh and the restaurant was lively and full of spirit, despite it being an otherwise quiet Tuesday evening.

Though we went in the evening, it is worth noting that Café Andaluz offers a set lunch and pre-theatre menu, ideal for a tasty bite before you settle down to watch a play or show. The restaurant also offers an extensive breakfast menu that serves both classic Spanish dishes and more local flavours too, such as a full English or Scottish breakfast. Overall, I would thoroughly recommend Café Andaluz if you are heading nearby anytime soon.
