Teapot Island has reopened under new ownership, and its riverside setting makes it an appealing place for lunch. We found a shaded table outside with lovely views of the river, although indoor seating is available too.

Two of us chose tuna melt toasties. I ordered the brie, bacon and cranberry toastie, swapping the bacon for fresh tomato. The staff were friendly and helpful about the change. The toasties came on fresh bread with generous salads of mixed leaves, tomato and red onion. Hazel, who does not like red onion, gave hers to me!

Table service let us settle in and enjoy the view. Nearby, a family was celebrating an 80th birthday, adding to the cheerful atmosphere. We found access straightforward and saw space for wheelchairs around the seating area.

The café also advertises coffee, homemade cakes and a wider daytime food menu.

It now opens into the evening on some days, serving pizzas from 5pm, and has a bar offering alcoholic drinks. We look forward to returning in the evening.

Our lunch was tasty, generously served and very good value. For current opening times, check Teapot Island Café & Bar’s Facebook page before travelling.
