Bush Blackbird and Thrush

Bush, Blackbird and ThrushWe were delighted to hear that one of our favourite local pubs is now in the hands of Maarit who has an enviable reputation as the former head chef at the North Pole Pub, Wateringbury.

Only a short drive from Kings Hill, the pub is in the middle of the countryside with a huge garden, plenty of outside picnic tables and a cosy interior. The first thing I noticed was the colourful flowers outside the pub and then the really warm welcome from friendly bar staff when we entered.

I had invited Anne from Mereworth to join me and catch up on news. Over a refreshing elderflower cordial we checked out the menu. Anne is gluten free but this proved no problem for the pub as they are able to adapt to your allergy needs.

Food at Bush, Blackbird and ThrushWe sat inside to eat – Anne chose the pork belly, mash and cabbage which came with a creamy sauce on the side, and I opted for the mushroom halloumi burger with salad, chips and coleslaw. Both were generous portions and delicious. There are many other options to suit most tastes from sandwiches with several fillings to scampi, fish and chips and chicken dishes.

After eating we went outside to the garden to enjoy the warm sunshine – if you have “well behaved” dogs and/or children it’s a great space for them to run around in and, if not, just a lovely place to chill!

We had a fabulous, relaxing time with delicious food and look forward to our next visit.
